LPGA International’s Acclaimed Jones Course Completes Greens Renovation Project

Former Host of LPGA Season-Ending Championship Installed New TifEagle Putting Surfaces

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — LPGA International’s acclaimed Jones Course reopened on schedule Wednesday, September 27 following a summer greens renovation project, welcoming golfers back with pristine conditions and smooth, fast putting surfaces.

After extensive research, LPGA International installed TifEagle Bermuda, one of the newer strains of ultradwarf grass that will ensure golfers enjoy a premium putting surface throughout the year. The greens were also restored to their original size.

“The renovation went perfectly, and we can’t wait to welcome golfers back this fall,” said Michael Glenn, LPGA International’s general manager. “Players will find the greens are smooth and fast, and the course, from tee to green, is in superb condition.”

The Jones Course hosted the LPGA’s Sprint Titleholders Championship from 1996 through 1998, and World Golf Hall of Fame member Karrie Webb was one of the winners. The layout will host the final stage of the LPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament Nov. 27 – Dec. 3, and the Symetra Tour Championship Oct. 5-8.

A links style design, the Jones Course has five sets of tees that stretch from 5,131 yards to 7,088 yards, providing the appropriate level of challenge for players of all skill levels. Strategic mounding, expansive bunkers, natural marsh areas and lakes provide unforgettable visuals and have helped make the course one of Florida’s best.

LPGA International is also home to the highly touted Hills Course, and helps anchor the Daytona Beach golf scene. Daytona Beach is home to more than 20 courses and is an easy drive from multiple PGA Tour stops, making it an ideal destination for golfers in search of good times on and off the course.

With multiple package options, which allow groups the opportunity to bundle golf and accommodations, and the lure of the World’s Most Famous Beach, Daytona Beach is a fast-emerging golf destination.

Sandra Palmer, Nancy Scranton To Be Inducted into Legends Hall of Fame at French Lick Resort

Sandra Palmer, Nancy Scranton To Be Inducted into Legends Hall of Fame at French Lick Resort

Induction will be held in conjunction with the Senior LPGA Championship presented by Old National Bank

FRENCH LICK, IND.  – LPGA veterans Sandra Palmer and Nancy Scranton will become the newest inductees into the Legends Hall of Fame.

Palmer, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, and Scranton, a native of Centralia, Ill., will be inducted on Saturday, July 8, into the Legends Hall of Fame — a permanent exhibit featured at French Lick Resort in French Lick, Ind.

The induction will be held in conjunction with the Senior LPGA Championship presented by Old National Bank, set for July 10-12, at French Lick Resort. This year’s event will be sanctioned by the LPGA as a senior LPGA major championship and will feature many members of The Legends Tour.

“I was speechless – really stunned, but deeply honored to learn that I will be a part of the Legends Hall of Fame,” said Palmer, who now lives in Long Beach, Calif.

“I feel very honored to be recognized in this way by The Legends Tour and by French Lick Resort,” added Scranton, who now lives in St. Augustine, Fla.

“It has been such a blessing to be a part of this great group of women and French Lick Resort has not only hosted The Legends Tour Championship for the past four years, but it also created a home to showcase the best women golfers in our history,” Scranton said.

While she is a native Texan, Palmer grew up and played junior golf in Bangor, Maine. She attended North Texas State University, where she was runner-up in the 1961 National Collegiate Championship. She was also a four-time winner of the West Texas Amateur and won the 1963 Texas State Women’s Amateur Championship.

Palmer turned professional and became an LPGA Tour member in 1964. She went on to win 19 professional events, including major championships at the 1972 Titleholders Championship and 1975 U.S. Women’s Open.

Palmer also was the LPGA’s top money winner and Player of the Year in 1975, and she finished in the top 10 on the LPGA’s season money list from 1968-1977. She played in her last LPGA Tour event in 1997.

Palmer was inducted into the Texas State Golf Hall of Fame in 1985, as well as into the National Collegiate Hall of Fame in 1988.

She is a Class A LPGA Teaching Professional and has been recognized as one of the nation’s top-50 LPGA teachers. Palmer currently is the director of women’s golf at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, Calif.

In addition, Palmer has played in more than 30 Legends Tour tournaments and routinely still competes in the Legends Honors Division for players age 63 and over.

“It’s wonderful that the Legends Hall of Fame has a home and that a competition for senior women professionals has a worthy stage,” said Palmer. “French Lick definitely brings out the best in your game.”

As an amateur, Scranton won the 1981-1982 St. Louis Metro Championship, the Southern Illinois Championship (1979, 1982-83) and the 1983 Illinois Women’s State Championship.

Collegiately, Scranton attended both Florida State University and the University of Kentucky, where she registered three top-five finishes, including two collegiate tournament wins. Scranton was named to the 1983 All-Southeastern Conference list.

The Illinois native qualified for the LPGA Tour on her first attempt and was a rookie in 1985. She went on to win three LPGA tournaments, including one major championship – the 1991 du Maurier Classic. In addition, she was a member of the 2000 U.S. Solheim Cup Team

After giving birth to twins Libby Jane and Luke Scranton in 2004, Scranton began competing on The Legends Tour, where she has won five times and posted 16 top-10 finishes.

Scranton has also been a stalwart on The Legends Tour’s Team USA for its ISPS Handa Cup competitions, on which she has contributed 19 points and compiled an 8-6-3 match record in the team matches event.

With their induction this summer, Scranton and Palmer will become the ninth and tenth members of the Legends Hall of Fame.

“I was really caught off guard when I found out about this induction,” added Scranton. “I was out of the country visiting my sister and her family in Italy, so it was fun to get to celebrate the news with her.”

Annual inductions include one active member of The Legends Tour who is still regularly competing in official Legends Tour events and one semi-retired Legends Tour member who has made a significant impact on the game during her LPGA and Legends Tour careers.

Palmer and Scranton will join Legends Tour Hall of Fame members Sandra Haynie and Elaine Crosby (inducted in 2016), JoAnne Carner and Rosie Jones (2015), Nancy Lopez and Jane Blalock (2014), and Jan Stephenson and Kathy Whitworth (2013).

This time competing on the Palmer Course and against an expanded field of elite juniors, Lee successfully booked her place in the starting field and earned the right to enjoy another golfing experience of a lifetime.

For the first time in the history of the newly-named ANA Junior Inspiration, the field included eight special invitees from across North America. Each of these junior players represented one of All Nippon Airway’s (ANA) gateway cities in North America – Chicago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, San Jose, Vancouver, Washington D.C. Historically, the ANA Junior Inspiration consisted of the best young golfers from California, but with the support of ANA, the opportunity to vie for a spot in the LPGA’s most iconic major championship was extended to additional deserving junior golf hopefuls.

“We are thrilled to welcome Andrea to the 2016 ANA Inspiration field,” said Hideki Kunugi, Senior Vice President of the Americas, ANA. “Her performance today amongst a stellar field was inspiring and we wish her the best of luck this week as she continues on her journey of competing at the highest level in golf. It was great to see new faces in the expanded ANA Junior Inspiration field today and we look forward to including more top junior talent from across North America in the future.”

Each group of junior players competing in the ANA Junior Inspiration today was paired with a former ANA Inspiration champion for coaching and mentoring throughout the event. LPGA Hall of Fame legend Pat Bradley had the chance to work closely Lee on the practice range and during Monday’s round providing valuable guidance and inspiration to the next generation of golf stars.

Former champion Bradley, who won the tournament in 1986, turned the clock back 30 years at the scene of her memorable victory to successfully mentor and guide eventual winner Lee around the Palmer Course.

Speaking on her junior’s win, Bradley said: “Wow. I’m so thrilled for Andrea. She’s worked so hard for this and it’s great she has won the right to be in the ANA Inspiration. I’m sure the win feels even sweeter with some of the best juniors invited to play by ANA. It’s a wonderful chance for careers to really take off and reach new heights!”

“I know the past champions are meant to offer advice and ‘inspire’ the junior, but honestly, I’m inspired by this experience, humbled and honored. The standard is so high now and all the juniors hit it so beautifully. I’ll be watching Andrea’s progress through the opening rounds and hopefully she can make it to the weekend and enjoy every moment. ”

Lee’s journey to the ANA Inspiration is just beginning as she has also been invited by ANA to attend the Champions Dinner taking place this evening and the pro-am on Wednesday, March 30. On Thursday, she will tee it up with the best players on the LPGA tour to compete for the title of 2016 ANA Inspiration champion.

ANA, Japan’s leading airline, announced its partnership with the LPGA in 2014 to become both the title sponsor of the first major of the season and the Official Airline of the LPGA. “Inspired Journeys” serves as the spirit of the tournament and ANA looks forward to again reaching a global audience with the ANA Inspiration while maintaining the long-standing traditions of the championship.

Soccer legends and LPGA stars to compete in “rematch” of

United States vs. Japan in FootGolf competition

RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIFORNIA, March 9, 2016 – The world’s best golfers will not be the only champion female athletes at this year’s ANA Inspiration, as tournament officials last night announced the first-ever ANA Inspiring Women in Sports Conference, slated for Tuesday, March 29 at Mission Hills Country Club.

Female sporting icons Missy Franklin, Annika Sorenstam, Lindsey Vonn, Abby Wambach and Kristi Yamaguchi will headline the inaugural conference, which will include a series of panels and discussions about the state of women’s sports, female athletes as role models, using sports as a platform to inspire women of all ages, and what it takes to be a champion. Swimmer Jessica Long will also share her inspiring story of overcoming a double leg amputation at 18 months old to become the one of the most decorated Paralympians in history.

The announcement of groundbreaking new ANA Inspiring Women in Sports Conference was made at a special launch event held in Beverley Hills attended by defending ANA Inspiration champion Brittany Lincicome alongside LPGA stars Cristie Kerr and Alison Lee, two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion Julie Foudy and world-class swimmer and 12-time Paralympic gold medalist Jessica Long.

Speaking at the launch Gabe Codding, ANA Inspiration tournament director, said: “The ANA Inspiring Women in Sports Conference is an incredible platform to showcase the stories of the world’s best female athletes and learn from their successes in the Olympics and in life”. “We are so grateful to our partner ANA for sharing in the vision to help tell these inspirational stories amidst the backdrop of the LPGA’s most iconic venue. It will be an absolute thrill to welcome these sports legends to Mission Hills Country Club and watch them interact with the LPGA’s best.”

Arianna Huffington, the co-founder, president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group, and author of 15 books, will deliver the keynote address on the habits of successful women. Foudy will serve as host and moderator.

Wambach, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup champion, will accept the inaugural ANA Inspiration Award, which is given to a female athlete, entrepreneur or philanthropist who, through her effort and determination on or off the playing field, has inspired other women to break barriers and achieve success.

“We are proud to bring together some of the top names in women’s sports for the inaugural ANA Inspiring Women in Sports Conference,” said Hideki Kunugi, Senior Vice President of the Americas, All Nippon Airways. “One of our goals when announcing our partnership as the Official Airline of the LPGA and title sponsor of the historic ANA Inspiration was to find ways to help inspire future generations of female athletes through elements like this new conference and the expansion of the ANA Junior Inspiration. It is these opportunities that can help inspire future female sports stars in Southern California, across the United States and around the world.”

Produced by IMG, the conference will take place in the all-new ANA Hospitality Pavilion adjacent to the 18th green of the Dinah Shore Tournament Course and Poppie’s Pond. In 1988, three-time ANA Inspiration winner Amy Alcott made the first-ever champion’s leap in Poppie’s Pond, thus inspiring the LPGA’s most recognizable tradition that carries on to today.

LPGA player panelists and additional contributors for the conference will be announced in the coming weeks.

At the conclusion of the ANA Inspiring Women in Sports Conference, the first-ever ANA FootGolf Challenge will take place on the adjacent Palmer Course at Mission Hills Country Club. American soccer legends Wambach and Foudy will team up with two American LPGA players in a six-hole competition against Japanese National Team legends Ayumi Kaihori and Yayao Kobayashi and two of their Japanese compatriots from the LPGA.

FootGolf, the hybrid sport where soccer meets golf, is played with a regulation soccer ball on shortened golf holes with 21-inch diameter cups cut into the greens. The rules largely correspond with the Rules of Golf. The American FootGolf League (AFGL), which is based in Palm Springs, will oversee the setup of the ANA FootGolf Challenge course and competition.

The conference will take place in advance of the season’s first major where defending champion Brittany Lincicome will seek to become the fourth player in LPGA history to win the ANA Inspiration three times. She will be joined by Rolex No. 1 Lydia Ko, No. 2 Inbee Park, No. 3 and 2014 champion Lexi Thompson, No. 4 and 2011 champion Stacy Lewis and No. 5 Ha Na Jang, a two-time winner on Tour in 2016. The full field for the 2016 ANA Inspiration will be announced on Tuesday, March 22.

Speaking on the new initiatives for 2016 ANA Inspiration defending champion Brittany Lincicome said: “The ANA Inspiration is very special to me. Last year everything felt like it had been upgraded as ANA added lots of touches and went above and beyond for the players. But with the new additions to the tournament line-up this year looks even better. I’m really looking forward to the ANA Inspiring Women in Sports Conference. When you meet another athlete at the top of their game it gives you cold chills. I’m not sure I’ll know what to say but I can’t wait to meet such inspiring women especially when I’m returning as the defending champion. I know it’s going to be real highlight.

“The ANA Junior Inspiration is incredible. For ANA to invite leading young players from across the country to Mission Hills and be given the chance to tee it up in the first major of the year is amazing. I can’t even imagine the nerves they’ll be feeling but it really is an opportunity of a lifetime! I’ve no doubt it will inspire more young girls into the game.”
