FRED COUPLES SIGNATURE GOLF COURSE BREAKS GROUND AT TWIN DOLPHIN GOLF CLUB
Naturalistic layout perched above Santa Maria Bay slated open in late 2018
Los Cabos, Mexico – March 29, 2017 – Ohana Real Estate Investors has unveiled design plans and commenced construction on its Fred Couples Signature Golf Course at the Twin Dolphin Golf Club. Scheduled to open in late 2018, the golf course is set within Twin Dolphin, a 1,400-acre master-planned community.
When it opens, the course will be the first Fred Couples Signature Golf Course in Los Cabos. Couples is working with Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design, the architect of record. “We want this to be a course that all players can enjoy,” Couples said. “With its multiple sets of tees, it will vary in length and will feature undulating greens, dramatic elevation changes, impeccable fairways and natural bunkering.”
Todd Eckenrode added, “We were meticulous in our mission to honor our surroundings. We’re building around the land, using local materials whenever possible and integrating and preserving natural features such as rock outcroppings, mature flora and landforms like arroyos in the golf routing.” Designed to pay tribute to the land, the layout, inspired by classic Golden Age courses, will feature an ocean view from every hole.
Rather than mass-grading and re-planting landscaped areas after the course is built, an environmentally-sensitive clearing plan has been established. The design team is grading from the center lines out to the perimeter of each golf hole and leaving the surrounding native vegetation intact. A buffer will be left on the perimeter of each golf hole to protect the natural beauty along the periphery of the course. Golf and landscape irrigation will utilize non-potable water from an on-site reverse osmosis desalination plant and wastewater treatment facilities.
“The Twin Dolphin Golf Club will reinvent the typical golf experience with unexpected amenities at every turn,” said Neil Johnson, Ohana’s director of residential real estate. “We are bringing the clubhouse experience onto the course and changing the way amenities are experienced. On-course amenities will include food and drink options that will be available in new and very exciting concepts offering indoor-outdoor dining and relaxation areas. The buildings will have a residential feel and will be something that people who are not even playing golf will want to tag along and experience.” Guests will enjoy highly personalized on-course service staff, a full practice range, short-game practice chipping areas, practice putting greens, a full-service clubhouse, on-course amenities and caddies.
Practice facilities will include individual hitting stations with laser-measured yardages to target greens. Each hitting station will be equipped with player amenities. In addition, state-of-the-art instructional video and computer systems will be available to guests as part of the instructional program.
The course will be available to residential owners within the Twin Dolphin community, including Maravilla Los Cabos and Montage Residences Los Cabos; as well as Montage Los Cabos, a deluxe 122-room oceanfront hotel expected to open in 2018. The development occupies the site of the former Hotel Twin Dolphin, an iconic property now honored in name by the community and its golf club.
“Montage Los Cabos on Santa Maria Bay is the absolute best location for a resort in all of Los Cabos,” said Alan Fuerstman, founder and CEO of Montage Hotels & Resorts. “Its stunning natural setting, gentle swimmable beach on the Sea of Cortes, and its proximity to all that Cabo has to offer sets the stage for an extraordinary Montage resort.”
