Stars and Stripes Outpost Badge Provides Exclusive Access While Supporting Military

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – (May 14, 2018): The Greenbrier Classic will once again provide the ultimate celebration of America’s Birthday at America’s Resort, and this year the annual PGA TOUR FedExCup event, which will take place July 2-8, is going even further to honor those who help make American Independence possible.

“The Greenbrier Classic has long been a terrific place to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, but this year we’re planning on making that celebration last all week,” said Habibi Mamone, Executive Tournament Director, The Greenbrier Classic. “We’re planning events throughout the seven days to celebrate the wonderful country we call home and honor the men and women of the military who allow us to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.”

One example is the new Stars and Stripes Outpost Badge. On sale now, this exclusive badge will give spectators a unique way to watch some of the world’s best golfers take on the challenges of the oldest course on the PGA TOUR, The Old White TPC.

The Stars and Stripes Outpost Badge will give badge holders access to complimentary parking at the State Fair of West Virginia Monday through Sunday, as well as admittance to the Stars and Stripes Outpost Monday through Sunday. Inside this climate-controlled tent, badge holders will find prime viewing along the 12th fairway, indoor and outdoor seating, upscale restrooms and televisions to watch all the action. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

On top of all of those terrific perks, those who purchase the $249 badge will be supporting the United States military, as proceeds from the badge will go to support various military organizations.

“The outpost will provide a wonderful tournament viewing experience and a great place to mingle with friends and family while watching some incredible golf,” said Mamone. “The best part is that you will be supporting some great organizations at the same time.”

As a thank you for their service, The Greenbrier Classic will provide complimentary Stars and Stripes Outpost Badges to members of the military. Tuesday, July 3 will be Military Appreciation Day, and military members who verify their status will receive a complimentary luncheon voucher for that day.

Golf fans wishing to purchase their Stars and Stripes Outpost Badge, as well as military members looking to reserve their complimentary badge, can do so at GreenbrierClassic.com.

More information about The 2018 Greenbrier Classic, including updates on the player field, will be available in the coming weeks.

Three Former WVU Quarterbacks to Participate in The Greenbrier Classic Pro-Am

White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. – (June 20, 2016): Three of the greatest quarterbacks in West Virginia University history will be together at The Greenbrier for the annual Wednesday Official Pro-Am at The Greenbrier Classic on July 6.
Marc Bulger, Jeff Hostetler and Pat White are all slated to tee it up on The Old White TPC Course for the star-studded event on the eve of tournament rounds.

“We’re thrilled to have these three big-time stars all together in West Virginia for The Greenbrier Classic,” said Jim Justice, Owner and CEO, The Greenbrier. “They were all three tremendous football players, but also tremendous people. I know we will see a lot of gold and blue out on The Old White TPC to watch them.”
During his four seasons in Morgantown, W.Va., from 1996 through 1999, Bulger, now a member of the WVU Sports Hall of Fame, completed 630 passes for 8,153 yards and 59 touchdowns. He ranks second in Mountaineer history in all three of those categories.

A Pittsburgh, Pa., native, Bulger was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played 10 seasons in the NFL, most of that time with the St. Louis Rams. His best years were from 2003 through 2008, when he was the team’s full-time starter. He made the Pro Bowl in 2004 and 2006 and was the Pro Bowl MVP in 2004. He ended his NFL career with 22,814 passing yards and 122 touchdowns.

Hostetler, who is also a member of the WVU Sports Hall of Fame, transferred to West Virginia from Penn State and made a huge impact for head coach Don Nehlen, who eventually became his father-in-law. In just 16 games as the Mountaineer quarterback in 1982 and 1983, Hostetler threw for 4,251 yards and 26 touchdowns.
In 1984, Hostetler was selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He went on to play 15 years in the NFL.

Hostetler’s professional highlights included an appearance in the 1994 Pro Bowl. Filling in for the injured Phil Sims, he also led the Giants to a victory over the favored Bills in Super Bowl XXV. It was his second Super Bowl ring, though he wasn’t the starter in Super Bowl XXI.

Hostetler finished his NFL career, which also included stints with the Raiders and Redskins, with 16,430 passing yards and 94 touchdowns.

White, a native of Daphne, Ala., is the only Mountaineer quarterback to lead his team to four bowl victories. As a freshman, he led WVU to a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia to cap off the 2015 season and followed that with victories in the Gator Bowl (Georgia Tech), Fiesta Bowl (Oklahoma) and Meineke Car Care Bowl (North Carolina) before his college career was complete.
White finished his WVU career with 6,049 passing yards and 56 passing touchdowns. He also rushed for 4,480 yards and 47 touchdowns, the rushing yardage total an NCAA record for quarterbacks. The Mountaineers were 42-9 during White’s four seasons in Morgantown, W.Va.

White was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, but his NFL career never panned out. He played in only 13 career games with the Dolphins.

The three Mountaineer greats will join former WVU head coach Don Nehlen, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame who coached both Hostetler and Bulger, and former WVU kicker/punter Pat McAfee, who is now with the Indianapolis Colts, for the Wednesday Pro-Am.

“It’s great to have all of these former WVU stars together playing in front of the fans that love them so much,” said Habibi Mamone, Tournament Director, The Greenbrier Classic. “It’s going to be a lot of fun for them and a lot of fun for sports fans all over West Virginia.”

Other big names that have previously been announced include Alabama head coach Nick Saban, a West Virginia native, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and Willie Robertson, Jase Robertson and Justin Martin from the Duck Dynasty television show on A&E.

Grounds badges for all seven days of the PGA TOUR FedExCup’s Greenbrier Classic, which will run July 4-10, are available free of charge by registering online at GreenbrierClassic.com. The deadline to reserve these badges is June 25 at 11:59 p.m.
Spectators will not need to go to Will Call to receive their complimentary badges. All Grounds Badges will be distributed as spectators board the complimentary shuttle buses. Buses will depart from the State Fair of West Virginia (general parking), The Greenbrier Sports Performance Center (ADA parking) and Villa Park (White Sulphur Springs residents only). Proper credentials will be required for the Sports Performance Center and Villa Park.

Every fan is also asked to bring a non-perishable food item with them to The Greenbrier Classic. These items will be collected and donated to area food banks.

Most Recent PGA TOUR Winner Committed to Greenbrier Classic

White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. – (May 10, 2016): James Hahn, who made headlines over the weekend by holding off some of golf’s biggest stars to win the Wells Fargo Championship, will be a part of the field for The Greenbrier Classic this July.

Hahn, who once quit golf to sell shoes, picked up an unlikely victory Sunday in Charlotte, finishing 9-under-par for the 72-hole tournament, two strokes better than Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson and Rickie Fowler. He then got the best of Roberto Castro in a sudden death playoff to earn his second PGA TOUR victory. Hahn’s other win on golf’s main stage came in the 2015 Northern Trust Open.

The 34-year-old, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, and went to college at the University of California, is no stranger to The Greenbrier Classic. The 2016 Greenbrier Classic, which will be held July 4-10 on The Greenbrier’s Old White TPC Course, will be Hahn’s fourth straight.

A professional since 2003, Hahn finished tied for 41st at 3-under-par in his first Greenbrier Classic appearance in 2013. He made the initial cut in 2014 but failed to survive the secondary cut after a rough third round. Last summer, Hahn posted his best Greenbrier Classic performance. His 11-under-par score was good enough for a tie for sixth.

“He has been a regular at The Greenbrier Classic, and we’re thrilled to see him coming back again,” said Monte Ortel, Executive Tournament Director, The Greenbrier Classic. “What he was able to accomplish at the Wells Fargo Classic was such a great story.”

Hahn isn’t the only player at the top of the Wells Fargo leaderboard planning on a trip to The Greenbrier Classic.

Castro, who narrowly missed out on his first PGA TOUR win when he hit his tee shot into the water on the first playoff hole, has also committed to The Greenbrier Classic. This will be his fourth appearance in the annual PGA TOUR, FedEXCup event. His best finish came in 2012, when he tied for seventh.

Andrew Loupe, who finished in a tie for fourth with those big names at 7-under at the Wells Fargo Classic, will also play in the 2016 Greenbrier Classic, as will 2009 U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, who finished tied for eighth at Wells Fargo at 6-under. Danny Lee, the 2015 Greenbrier Classic champion who was tied for ninth at the Wells Fargo Championship, will be back to defend his title, and Fabian Gomez, who also tied for ninth, will compete in the 2016 Greenbrier Classic, as well.

“We’re excited to have commitments from so many golfers who are playing so well right now,” said Ortel. “The Greenbrier Classic has always been extremely competitive, and it’s definitely shaping up to be that way again.”
