TPC Myrtle Beach Poised To Host Star-Studded NCAA Regional Championship
No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 8 California Highlight 14-Team Field
MURRELLS INLET, S.C. — TPC Myrtle Beach, one of America’s premier public golf courses, is in near perfect condition as it prepares to host the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional May 13-15 as part of the Division I Men’s Golf Championship.
Fourteen of the nation’s best collegiate teams, including five top 25 squads, and five individuals will compete for the opportunity to advance to the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., at the end of month.
The Myrtle Beach Regional field is headlined by fourth-ranked Wake Forest and No. 8 California, which is led by Collin Morikawa, the nation’s second-ranked collegiate golfer. Among the five individuals who earned the right to compete in the regional was Coastal Carolina’s Zack Taylor.
There will be six 54-hole regionals conducted across the nation May 13-15. The top 5 teams and lowest-scoring individual not on a team from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship.
Completing the Myrtle Beach Regional field (Sagrin ranking in parenthesis) are: Texas Tech (No. 18), Illinois (No. 23), Florida State (No. 25), UNLV (No. 34), Oregon (No. 35), Ohio State (No. 52), Northwestern (No. 54), Oregon State (No. 62), Cal State Fullerton (No. 67), Middle Tennessee State (No. 110), VCU (No. 134) and Robert Morris (No. 259).
The four individuals joining Taylor are Davidson’s Jack Lang, Florian Schroedl of Fairleigh Dickenson and Bobby Bai and Kyler Tate from the University of Central Florida,

TPC Myrtle Beach, a layout that has hosted the Senior PGA Tour Championship and the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, will provide an idyllic venue. The 7,000-yard layout places a premium on ball-striking but the regional championship could be decided by a pair of memorable risk-reward holes on the back nine.
The short par 4 12th hole, which plays just 333 from the tips, is reachable off the tee but trouble looms in the form of heavy woods that run the entirety of the left side of the hole.
TPC’s signature hole, the par 5 18th, is always full of drama. At 538-yards from the black tees, the green will be reachable in two for anyone who finds the fairway off the tee, but water that plays to the left edge of the green adds considerable risk to the challenge.

Charlie Rymer Named Myrtle Beach’s Family Golf Week 2019 “Father of the Year”

Rymer, the former PGA TOUR player best known for his years as an analyst and commentator at Golf Channel, recently relocated his family to the Myrtle Beach area as part of his new duties as “the voice of the Myrtle Beach golf scene” for Golf Tourism Solutions and its website, www.PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com. As he has with his current role promoting “The Golf Capital of the World,” Rymer quickly embraced this most recent tribute.
“Being named Father of the Year is quite the honor, and I’m not sure it would have happened without golf,” said Rymer. “In an era of many distractions, it’s very difficult to find time to communicate with your kids. Designed in 1990 by Lloyd Clifton, DeBary was created from land that was once an orange grove and runs through a residential community. However, on most holes, houses are hidden by a buffer of trees and vegetation. DeBary plays 6,776 yards from the back tees.
— Halifax Plantation Golf Club in nearby Ormond Beach was designed by Bill Amick in 1993. It plays through corridors of oak trees more than 100 years old intermingled with native pines. It’s a hefty 7,128 yards from the championship tees but there are four sets of men’s tees and two sets of women’s tees from which players at every handicap level can find a comfortable yardage.
