TPC Myrtle Beach Poised To Host Star-Studded NCAA Regional Championship

No. 4 Wake Forest, No. 8 California Highlight 14-Team Field

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. — TPC Myrtle Beach, one of America’s premier public golf courses, is in near perfect condition as it prepares to host the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional May 13-15 as part of the Division I Men’s Golf Championship.

Fourteen of the nation’s best collegiate teams, including five top 25 squads, and five individuals will compete for the opportunity to  advance to the NCAA Championship in Fayetteville, Ark., at the end of month.

The Myrtle Beach Regional field is headlined by fourth-ranked Wake Forest and No. 8 California, which is led by Collin Morikawa, the nation’s second-ranked collegiate golfer. Among the five individuals who earned the right to compete in the regional was Coastal Carolina’s Zack Taylor.

There will be six 54-hole regionals conducted across the nation May 13-15. The top 5 teams and lowest-scoring individual not on a team from each regional will advance to the NCAA Championship.

Completing the Myrtle Beach Regional field (Sagrin ranking in parenthesis) are: Texas Tech (No. 18), Illinois (No. 23), Florida State (No. 25), UNLV (No. 34), Oregon (No. 35), Ohio State (No. 52), Northwestern (No. 54), Oregon State (No. 62), Cal State Fullerton (No. 67), Middle Tennessee State (No. 110), VCU (No. 134) and Robert Morris (No. 259).

The four individuals joining Taylor are Davidson’s Jack Lang, Florian Schroedl of Fairleigh Dickenson and Bobby Bai and Kyler Tate from the University of Central Florida,

“TPC Myrtle Beach is a layout capable of challenging the best players in the world, and it will help identify the teams and individuals most deserving of advancing to the 2019 NCAA Championship,” said Steve Mays, president of Founders Group International. “The course is in pristine condition, and we can’t wait to welcome golf’s next generation of stars to Myrtle Beach.”

Admission to the NCAA Myrtle Beach Regional is free. Parking will be at Inlet Square Mall and a free shuttle service will transport spectators to TPC Myrtle Beach.

TPC Myrtle Beach, a layout that has hosted the Senior PGA Tour Championship and the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship, will provide an idyllic venue. The 7,000-yard layout places a premium on ball-striking but the regional championship could be decided by a pair of  memorable risk-reward holes on the back nine.

The short par 4 12th hole, which plays just 333 from the tips, is reachable off the tee but trouble looms in the form of heavy woods that run the entirety of the left side of the hole.

TPC’s signature hole, the par 5 18th, is always full of drama. At 538-yards from the black tees, the green will be reachable in two for anyone who finds the fairway off the tee, but water that plays to the left edge of the green adds considerable risk to the challenge.

The one aspect of the of Lanny Wadkins-Tom Fazio design everyone will be talking about is its superior conditioning. TPC Myrtle Beach, which has been ranked among America’s “100 Greatest Public Courses,” by Golf Digest, has continually improved under the stewardship of Founders Group International (FGI), delivering a golf experience that exceeds the lofty expectations associated with the TPC brand.

In 2018, Fazio’s design team led a project that included the installation the Better Billy Bunker system, an effort that has greatly improved bunker conditioning and helped TPC Myrtle Beach continue to deliver a PGA Tour quality experience to players.

CHARLES SCHWAB CHALLENGE SET TO MAKE ITS MARK AT COLONIAL IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS

CHARLES SCHWAB CHALLENGE SET TO MAKE ITS MARK AT COLONIAL IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS
Tournament title sponsor marks countdown to storied event by announcing one-of-a-kind new upgrades designed to enhance the player and fan experience

FORT WORTH, Texas, April 30, 2019 — With less than one month to go until the start of the 2019 Charles Schwab Challenge, the tournament and Schwab are announcing a series of new initiatives that will pay homage to the tradition of this event and legacy of golf legend, Ben Hogan — while building a bridge to its future as one of the most modern and engaging events on the PGA TOUR.

In its first year as title sponsor, Charles Schwab and the tournament will introduce new programming that celebrates the players, golf fans and the Dallas-Fort Worth community. The one-of-a-kind elements — from a fully renovated and customized 1973 Dodge® Challenger that will be awarded to the winner, to a new Throwback Thursday-themed first round and a state-of-the-art fan engagement zone — will bring the event’s challenger spirit to life over Memorial Day Weekend.

“We are honored to play a part in the tradition of this historic tournament in Fort Worth and its longstanding support from the Metroplex community,” said Andy Gill, Charles Schwab’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We see so many parallels between this tournament’s history of competition and philanthropy and our own firm’s legacy and commitment to the State of Texas. That’s why we wanted to help bring a refreshing new approach to the event that we hope will carry through for years of value for the game and the community.”

Going Retro with Throwback Thursday – 73% off for fans

This year, The Charles Schwab Challenge will introduce a Throwback Thursday promotion – a true first for the game of golf. During the tournament’s first round on Thursday, May 23, PGA TOUR players are invited to wear throwback apparel designed to celebrate the classic golf styles of 1973 – the year Charles Schwab was founded. Volunteers and fans are also invited to get in on the action and wear their own throwback apparel as they cheer on the game’s stars. Fans dressed in throwback gear will unlock a fan-friendly 73 percent discount on food and non-alcoholic drinks at the Colonial’s concession stands that day.

To further embrace the spirit of Throwback Thursday, fans who make a charitable donation to The First Tee of Fort Worth – a youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to young people – will also receive a commemorative Ben Hogan bobblehead, while supplies last.

Bringing Fans Inside The 5: Schwab Performance Center

A state-of-the-art fan engagement zone, “The 5: Schwab Performance Center,” will focus on the five modern fundamentals of both golf and investing, paying homage to tournament legend Ben Hogan’s ground-breaking approach to the game and Schwab’s modern approach to investing and retirement. The 5,000 square foot site includes a holistic, interactive training center that will allow fans the opportunity to get their golf swing analyzed and receive a custom golf lesson from GolfTEC teaching pros. Three simulators will also give fans the opportunity to compete each day in a closest to the pin challenge on the famous 13th hole and hit drives off the 18th tee at Colonial. Fans with tickets to the Charles Schwab Challenge can visit the Schwab Performance Center from May 23-26.

An Immersive Digital Golf Experience

Schwab is helping give fans an inside look at the challenging course at Colonial with help of four experienced PGA TOUR caddies, including Damon Green, Brennan Little, DJ Nelson and James Edmondson.

Through a series of digital videos that are available on SchwabGolf.com, the firm is spotlighting all 18 holes at Colonial and what it takes to help prepare the game’s greatest players for this iconic tournament. Each video features a different caddie sharing his specific insight on how to play each hole and serves to illustrate Schwab’s longstanding belief that taking ownership of your future – or in this case, the golf course – starts with the things that you do today. Schwab has also launched a digital content series called “The Challengers,” which highlights several icons in the sport of golf that are challenging the status quo in their own fields – including  Hall of Famer and entrepreneur Greg Norman; golf course architect David McLay Kidd; golf course developer and founder of Bandon Dunes, Mike Keiser; former professional golfer and current men’s head golf coach at the University of Oregon, Casey Martin; and coming in June golf course architect Bill Coore.

Driving Off with a New Champion’s Prize

As previously announced, a fully renovated and customized 1973 Dodge® Challenger will be awarded to the winning player of the Charles Schwab Challenge. A complement to the iconic Leonard Trophy that has been awarded at Colonial since 1950 and the Scottish royal tartan plaid jacket (since 1952), the Challenger prize is a first for the tournament and is designed to celebrate the year Schwab was founded, the challenging nature of the course at Colonial and the challenging spirit of the event and its players.

The car will be on special display at the 10th tee during the tournament, until it is awarded to the player who will have his name etched on the Wall of Champions for 2019 at Colonial Country Club in Ft. Worth.

Charles Schwab & Co. signed on as title sponsor of the PGA TOUR’s Fort Worth Invitational at Colonial Country Club in 2018. Already a major sponsor of the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR Champions, the four-year agreement, which runs through 2022, marks the firm’s first-ever title sponsorship of a PGA TOUR event. It also reinforces Schwab’s commitment to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, which is home to the firm’s rapidly-growing presence in Westlake.

LAMKIN RELEASES INNOVATIVE ADDITIONS TO THE POPULAR SONAR GRIP LINE

LAMKIN RELEASES INNOVATIVE ADDITIONS TO THE POPULAR SONAR GRIP LINE

SAN DIEGO, 4/30/2019 – Lamkin Grips , the innovation leader in golf grip manufacturing, has announced the introduction of two new models in its hugely popular SONAR line. The new SONAR TOUR and SONAR WRAP
grips add distinctive options to the unmistakable feel and all-weather performance of the SONAR grip family that was a runaway success for Lamkin in 2018.

Both additions to the SONAR line benefit from Lamkin’s proprietary FINGERPRINT Technology and GENISIS material. Lamkin’s proprietary FINGERPRINT technology distributes intricate and densely spaced patterns
throughout the grip’s surface. These micro-textures deliver a smooth, comfortable surface feel along with a high level of grip traction for enhanced comfort, confidence and all-weather control. Lamkin’s patent-
pending GENESIS material provides unrivalled grip comfort by combining a slightly softer feel than traditional rubber with durability that exceeds all comparable grip materials.

Designed in collaboration with Lamkin’s Tour ambassador Justin Rose, SONAR TOUR features the omni- directional grip traction provided by FINGERPRINT Technology combined with a firmer durometer Lamkin
GENESIS material for enhanced torsion control under the pressure of higher swing speeds. A unique finishing process preserves SONAR TOUR’s super-tacky surface feel, ensuring the Tour inspired design retains the
line’s comfortable quality. A traditional taper shape delivers a conventional feel and in a final nod to its Tour inspiration the grip is fitted with a logo down design, often preferred by the best players in the world.

SONAR WRAP provides the super tacky feel and all-weather performance of SONAR in a new wrap style model. The SONAR WRAP grip benefits from Lamkin’s proprietary FINGERPRINT Technology and patent- pending GENESIS material to deliver a grip that has unprecedented levels of comfort and traction. To further enhance the simulated wrap feel, SONAR WRAP includes an ergonomic ‘Progressive Skive’, with fluctuating spiral dimensions based on grip size and is available in both Standard+ and Mid Size+ variations.

Lamkin CEO and President Bob Lamkin is thrilled with the response to the SONAR and excited to show off the line extension. He said, “The combination of GENESIS material and FINGERPRINT Technology in the SONAR grip delivers an ideal feel for such a wide audience of players. The two additions to the line add variations for golfers who have specific preferences in their grip style. I’m very excited about the success of the SONAR line and look forward to sharing the incredible feel of the new grips with golfers worldwide.”

Charlie Rymer Named Myrtle Beach’s Family Golf Week 2019 “Father of the Year”

Charlie Rymer Named Myrtle Beach’s Family Golf Week 2019  “Father of the Year”

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The Executive Committee of Family Golf Week, which includes the Father & Son Team Classic and the Parent & Child Team Classic, announced today the event will honor golf media personality Charlie Rymer as its Father of the Year at its July 2019 festivities in Myrtle Beach.

Rymer, the former PGA TOUR player best known for his years as an analyst and commentator at Golf Channel, recently relocated his family to the Myrtle Beach area as part of his new duties as “the voice of the Myrtle Beach golf scene” for Golf Tourism Solutions and its website, www.PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com. As he has with his current role promoting “The Golf Capital of the World,” Rymer quickly embraced this most recent tribute.

“Being named Father of the Year is quite the honor, and I’m not sure it would have happened without golf,” said Rymer. “In an era of many distractions, it’s very difficult to find time to communicate with your kids. Getting out on a golf course is the best way to relax and enjoy stress free family time.  It’s a place where we feel comfortable and can talk about life.  Or, just kick back and enjoy each other’s company.”

Rymer especially enjoys those times as his children have now matured to become young adults. The oldest of his two sons, Charlie, is 22 and is due to graduate from Florida State University later this year with a degree in economics. His younger son, Hayden, is 21 and enters his senior year at the University of Missouri in pursuit of an economics degree as well. Both sons share their father’s love of golf, and enjoy test their single-digit handicaps by spending quality family time on the links.

With this Family Golf Week honor, Rymer’s connections to golf, family and his home state now come full circle. Moving to Myrtle Beach with his wife, Carol, was a homecoming of sorts: Rymer grew up in Fort Mill, South Carolina; played junior golf extensively in Myrtle Beach; and annually vacationed along the Grand Strand before hosting the hit Golf Channel show “Road Trip: Myrtle Beach.”

“Charlie has roots here, and he’s big with junior golf,” said Mike Buccerone, president of East Coast Golf Events, the company that runs Family Golf Week. “I’ve been privileged to serve alongside Charlie on the board of Gene’s Dream Foundation to help further Gene Weldon’s lifelong mentoring impact on junior golfers. Charlie’s a good friend of this community, and we’re delighted he wanted to be involved. We’re all excited about it.”

The 22nd Annual Father & Son Team Classic and the Parent & Child Team Classic will be played July 17-20 on eight of Myrtle Beach’s best courses, many of which have been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses. The Love Course at Barefoot Resort, Glen Dornoch and Heritage Club are among the highlight venues for this year’s event.

Players can register for the tournament at FamilyGolfWeek.com. Entry fee is $995 per team and includes three rounds of golf, daily lunch, pre- and post-event functions, and a gift bag valued at $500. Included among the gift bag items are a $150 tournament gift card that can be used at host courses for food, merchandise and golf, a logo’d polo shirt, a dozen Srixon golf balls and more.

About Family Golf Week

Family Golf Week encompasses two events: The Father & Son Team Classic, now in its 22nd year, and the Parent & Child Team Classic. The Father & Son is a two-person team, 54-hole event that takes place in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina every July. The event is not just for fathers and sons, but also for all relationships so long as there is a generational gap. The Parent & Child Team Classic is similar to the Father & Son Team Classic but incorporates all other relationships, such as mother and daughter or mother and son. As the largest father and son event in the world, the Father & Son Team Classic has always placed an emphasis on family bonds, particularly those created through memorable events and fun competition.
