The 54-hole, college style event begins on Thursday with a qualifying round at True Blue Golf Club. Based on qualifying scores, teams will be flighted for 36 holes of stroke play competition.
Friday and Saturday rounds will be played at True Blue and Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, both of which are ranked among America’s top 100 public courses.
The field is highlighted by Boiling Springs (S.C.) High School and its No. 1 player, Trent Phillips, the fifth ranked junior boy in America, according to Golfweek.
Current PGA Tour players Rickie Fowler, the 2006 champion, and Harris English are among the Palmetto’s distinguished alums.
Caledonia is ranked 29th on Golf Magazine’s list of the Top 100 You Can Play, a ranking of America’s best public courses, and True Blue is 77th on the prestigious list. Both layouts are Mike Strantz designs that offer distinct, yet equally dramatic and memorable experiences.
Caledonia, which is equal parts art and architecture, plays through a stunning piece of lowcountry land that was once home to a thriving rice plantation. A round at True Blue, while completely different from a design perspective, is no less captivating. Strantz used waste bunkers, which frame many of the course’s fairways, to craft a layout that is among the area’s most visually stunning.

Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge To Add Two-Acre Short Game Facility
Facility Will Also See Upgraded Driving Range and Irrigation System
ORLANDO, March 22, 2018 – The Arnold Palmer Design Company, a golf course architecture firm under the Arnold Palmer Group, today announced in the spirit of its founder’s constant and never-ending pursuit of perfection, Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge will add an extensive two-acre short game facility and make improvements to the driving range following the 2018 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard.
The initial enhancements will start with the short-game facility and will feature four greens of varying shapes and sizes along with a collection of bunkers built to different depths and design styles to simulate on-course scenarios. For an image, click here.
“It is important for us to design a facility that showcases on-course scenarios not only found at Bay Hill, but other situations players would find when playing at other top clubs around the world,” said Brandon Johnson, APDC architect and vice president. “The new short game area will allow members and guests to get lost in their practice sessions honing basic shots or experimenting with a variety of recovery shots that incorporate flat pitch slopes, nobs, false fronts, backboards and various bunkers styles.”
To make way for the short game facility expansion, the ninth hole on the Charger Course will be redesigned into an exciting drivable par four. In addition, the Championship Course will get a new state-of-the-art irrigation system installed. This new system will allow the superintendent to manage water outputs more efficiently and accurately resulting in firmer, faster playing conditions on healthier turf grass.

PITTSBURGH (March 15, 2018) – DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS), the largest U.S.-based, full-line omni-channel sporting goods retailer, announced today the relaunch of the iconic Tommy Armour golf brand, with a renewed focus on innovative golf club technology that promotes both forgiveness and distance. Men’s, women’s and senior drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, irons, wedges and putters are all included in the new offering. Tommy Armour will be available online and in-stores exclusively at DICK’S and Golf Galaxy starting March 18.
DICK’S partnered with Designworks, a subsidiary of BMW Group, to develop a premium set of game improvement woods and irons for mid-to-high-handicap golfers that are offered at a lower price point than comparable products. One standout innovation is the TA1 Driver, featuring a DAT 55G titanium face, which is a high tensile strength material that provides longer distance and more forgiveness and is not widely available in the US market.
“We set out to honor the history of the Tommy Armour brand and build a product that golfers at any level would want to use,” said Scott Hudler, Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, DICK’S Sporting Goods. “From the early feedback we’ve received, these clubs are ones that you’re just going to have to try to really experience the difference they deliver in both distance and feel. We think this brand will be a game-changer for any player looking to improve their game.”
Named after World Hall of Fame golfer and instructor, Thomas Dickenson Armour, the return of the brand is nostalgic for players of any generation. First launched in the 1970s, Tommy Armour achieved significant recognition in the 1980s with the introduction of its 845s line of irons – selling more than 600,000 sets.
“Participating in the re-launch of an iconic brand is an exciting and inspiring opportunity” said Laura Robins, Director at Designworks LA Studio. “Drawing on our experience working across a number of industries on a wide range of performance-based products enabled us to deliver unique design and technology insights for the new Tommy Armour clubs, resulting in a product which provides golfers with a truly premium experience.”

Bridgestone Golf’s TOUR B X and XS Golf Balls Now Available in Yellow
New Models Meet Growing Demand Among Low-Handicap Players Seeking Colored Options
(COVINGTON, GA) – Bridgestone Golf – innovator of premium golf balls, clubs and accessories – announces its popular TOUR B X and XS golf balls are now available in yellow and can be purchased exclusively through www.bridgestonegolf.com.
The original white versions were at center stage during the thrilling conclusion of yesterday’s Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort and Golf Club, as Bridgestone Golf staff players and TOUR B users Tiger Woods (XS) and Brandt Snedeker (X) vied for the title. In only his fifth official PGA TOUR start since switching to Bridgestone golf balls, the 42-year-old Woods recorded a runner-up finish, his best showing since 2013.
This limited rollout is part of a trial program for the U.S. market that follows growing consumer demand. Sharing identical performance characteristics with the white versions, the yellow X and XS golf ball are designed to meet the performance needs of low-handicap players. Both provide excellent spin and greenside control due to a soft urethane cover formulation, while increased distance comes from enhanced aerodynamics and an improved 330 Dual Dimple design.
Among Bridgestone Golf’s best-selling models, the TOUR B X appeals to players seeking reduced driver spin for increased accuracy off the tee and the XS provides added friction for enhanced feel and control thanks to a softer cover and lower compression.
“Our market research indicates colored golf ball sales in the U.S. now represent over 20% of total ball sales,” says Elliot Mellow, Marketing Manager at Bridgestone Golf. “However, there is a void of colored options for low handicap golfers. Our TOUR B models outperform anything on the market and we want to ensure that avid players who have specific aesthetic and optical preferences can experience the superior performance of Bridgestone golf balls.”
Beyond the TOUR B X and XS models, Bridgestone currently offers colored variants in its TOUR B RX, e6 SPEED & SOFT, Extra Soft, and Lady golf balls.
The TOUR B Series represents Bridgestone’s most technologically advanced golf balls to date. During development, company engineers used data from more than 3 million in-person and online ball fittings, combined with insights from leading third-party industry sources, to identify the needs of specific player types. They then drew on more than 800 golf ball patents to determine which proprietary technologies would most benefit each of the golfer personas identified.
Four models make up the TOUR B line – X, XS, RX and RXS (each $44.99) – which provide unmatched feel, accuracy and distance. In order to help customers find the perfect ball for their games, Bridgestone offers two quick, easy and comprehensive fitting options:
BFIT Golf Ball Fitting App – Free to download, the app turns iPhones into a mobile launch monitor by utilizing the camera to analyze the user’s swing and recommend the best Bridgestone ball for their game.
New Online Fitting Tool – Available at www.bridgestonegolf.com, it accommodates the full spectrum of players. The “Quick Fit” option easily determines the best ball for novices, while the in-depth “I Know My Game” offers detailed set of questions to aid experienced golfers in finding the perfect fit. Finally, the “I’ve Been Measured” path allows users to input launch monitor data, ensuring the most accurate recommendation possible.
Each TOUR B Series golf ball features the proven characteristics that have made Bridgestone Golf among the most respected names in the industry. The benefits of these features include:
Accuracy – Gradational core provides optimal energy transfer to create low side-spin and high ball velocity for incredible distance and accuracy gains
Consistency – Seamless cover design utilizes injection molding technology to stabilize ball flight on all shots
Distance – Aerodynamically superior dimple profiles provide different player types with vastly enhanced length and control
Feel – SlipRes cover technology increases friction by creating more stability between the ball and club for enhanced control with irons and wedges
Bridgestone Golf’s professional staff includes 14-time major championship winner Tiger Woods, FedExCup champion Brandt Snedeker, Olympics bronze medalist Matt Kuchar, Masters winner Fred Couples, rising stars Bryson DeChambeau, Lexi Thompson and more.

The Old White TPC tees off with 105th season of golf
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – (March 15, 2018): The 105th season of golf on The Old White TPC Course at The Greenbrier officially begins on Friday, March 30, with a special ceremony to mark the historic occasion.
Commencing at 10 a.m., on the iconic first tee, the ceremony includes some anecdotes on the course’s storied past from The Greenbrier historian Dr. Robert Conte, as well as a question and answer session. A ceremonial first ball of the season follows Conte’s remarks, before tee times officially begin for 2018.
“The Old White TPC has an amazing story to tell, and it is a significant part of golf history in the United States,” said Dr. Jill Justice, President, The Greenbrier. “We’re excited about another year of golf on this treasured classic.”
Originally designed and constructed by Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor in 1914, The Old White TPC was named for the well known Old White Hotel, which stood on the resort grounds from 1858 through 1922.
Macdonald, the father of American golf course architecture, modeled several holes from some of the most famous throughout Europe. The 8th Hole was styled after the “Redan” at North Berwick, the 13th after the “Alps” at Prestwick and the 15th after the “Eden” at St. Andrews. His associate, Seth Raynor, assisted in the course construction and returned in the 1920s to oversee updates to the golf course.
Through the years, the course has played host to legendary golfers like Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino, as well as presidents and celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment.
Since 2010, The Old White TPC has been the host of The Greenbrier Classic, an annual PGA TOUR FedEx Cup event, making it the oldest course on the PGA TOUR. Past champions include Stuart Appleby, Scott Stallings, Ted Potter Jr., Jonas Blixt, Angel Cabrera, Danny Lee and Xander Schauffele. A who’s who list of the best golfers in the world have participated in the tournament, including Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Bubba Watson, John Daly and many others. The 2018 Greenbrier Classic takes place July 2-8.
After sustaining substantial damage from flood waters in June of 2016, forcing the cancellation of The 2016 Greenbrier Classic less than a month later, The Old White TPC reopened in July of 2017 just in time for the tournament, fully restored by noted golf course architect Keith Foster. By fully embracing the original Macdonald/Raynor elements, the course has been overwhelmingly received by PGA TOUR players and guests alike. Golf Digest named The Old White TPC the Best Restoration of 2017. It was also named one of America’s 100 Best Public Courses by that same publication.
The 2018 golf season on The Old White TPC runs from March 30 through November 26 and is closed only for needed maintenance and preparations for The Greenbrier Classic. Greens fees begin at $300 for registered guests and $350 for non-registered guests. To schedule a tee time, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 877-599-9153 (Option 1).

New PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons – Not Just Better, Better in Every Way PXG Announces New Iron Technology Three Years in the Making
Scottsdale, AZ (March 16, 2018) – PXG, the luxury performance golf equipment company that disrupted industry norms with its bold approach to product development and distribution, has announced it will release a new generation of iron technology. Three years in the making, PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons improve on PXG’s already outstanding clubs in every measurable way.
In 2015, PXG introduced its groundbreaking original 0311 iron technology. The company had 12 employees and a singular vision – develop the world’s finest golf equipment. Today, PXG has more than 170 employees and a global footprint, but its vision has not shifted.
With performance as PXG’s only measure for success, the company took its time and left nothing on the table in the development of its GEN2 Irons. Through innovations in materials, technology and customization, PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons deliver better turf interaction, greater distance, faster ball speeds, higher launch and improved accuracy.
“It’s a tall task creating a club that is better than the best, but that’s our commitment,” said PXG founder and CEO Bob Parsons. “PXG will never release a new club that is not notably better than what we currently offer. And we believe, PXG GEN2 Irons set a new standard for the world’s finest.”
Forged from 8620 soft carbon steel, for enhanced aesthetics and durability over time, PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons have the sleek look of a blade and a buttery-soft feel.
“The difference is noticeable,” FedEx Cup champion Billy Horschel stated. “The new irons setup beautifully, with a little less offset and a thinner top line. They feel amazing and are incredibly consistent.”
Each club also features a hidden cavity injection molded with new COR2 Technology, a proprietary vibration dampening material with explosive C.O.R. (coefficient of restitution) properties. Combined with PXG’s new internal face perimeter cut-out design, which dramatically increases the functional face area, COR2 Technology helps deliver higher ball speeds, a more consistent response, improved accuracy, and an exceptional feel at impact.
To maximize performance and deliver extreme forgiveness, PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons present the world’s thinnest club face and PXG’s signature perimeter weighting technology.
Two-time major champion Lydia Ko shared, “I absolutely love the feel through the ball with the new irons, and my ball flight is consistently higher. The clubs are so forgiving on mishits that my distance isn’t really affected.”
“GEN2 irons have somehow improved on an iron that I thought would be nearly impossible to improve. And, PXG improved them in every way,” five-time PGA TOUR winner Ryan Moore added. “The clubs went in my bag immediately!”
Designed to meet the needs of golfers at every level, PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons will be available in four collections – Tour (T), Players (P), Xtreme Forgiveness (XF), and Super Game Improvement (SGI).
PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons are $400 a stick for Chrome and $500 for Xtreme Dark, a black diamond-like carbon coating. Purchased through PXG, price includes a custom fitting with a PXG Master Fitter, access to an extensive matrix of premium shafts and array of grip options.
PXG 0311 GEN2 Irons will be available April 19, 2018. To learn more or to pre-schedule a fitting, visit www.PXG.com.
