Whistling Rock Country Club Refines Golf Course

Renaissance Golf Design’s Eric Iverson Led Project

Chuncheon, South Korea (Nov. 3, 2016)Whistling Rock Country Club—the No. 2 golf course in Korea as ranked by Golf Magazine Korea—has completed a refinement project.

Under the direction of Eric Iverson, Vice President of Tom Doak’s Renaissance Golf Design of Traverse City, Michigan, Whistling Rock received subtle but significant changes to enhance its strategic values, and to improve both variety and playability, particularly on and around the greens.

“The greens at Whistling Rock were really artfully done,” says Iverson, “but there are some that ended up being a little steep when matched with the superior turf conditions the club presents.  Walking that fine line is something that we have a great deal of experience with, and I addressed this issue and added strategy and variety at the same time.”

Whistling Rock Country Club, owned and operated by Taekwang Group, a large South Korean conglomerate with holdings in textiles, petrochemical, cable television, financial services, and leisure development; was originally designed by noted American architect Ted Robinson Jr. This 27-hole private club is located about one-hour northeast of Seoul in the foothills of the Gangwon Provincial mountains. The course, which opened in 2011, is known for its challenging layout, artful and naturalistic design, and unparalleled mountain environment.

Realizing the quality of the product that the design and construction teams had created, the club aspired to be even better, and accordingly, devised a long-term plan to maximize the potential of the property, the golf course, and the club. The process included a visit from American agronomist Tim Moraghan (Aspire Golf) to evaluate the course conditioning, and concluded with an invitation to Iverson to review the golf.

Eric evaluated the quality and quantity of ‘thinking’ that the golfer may face on each shot of each hole,” says David Fisher, Vice President of Whistling Rock.  “We have an amazing environment for golf and a solid routing, but the strategic element of the golf was where we needed and received a fresh perspective.”

Both Iverson and club management emphasized that while the original layout remains intact, the changes are very apparent and consistent with the club’s adopted mandate, “a harmony of art and nature.”

GolfTEC Set for Accelerated Domestic Openings of Stand-alone Improvement Centers

GolfTEC Set for Accelerated Domestic Openings of Stand-alone Improvement Centers

Dedicated Plan Ensures Seamless Transition for Students & Coaches Impacted by
Golfsmith International Acquisition by DICK’S Sporting Goods

(Centennial, Colo) – GolfTEC – the world leader in golf lessons and largest employer of PGA Professionals – is moving forward with opening multiple stand-alone improvement centers before the end of 2016, along with more than 20 new openings in major markets throughout the first half of 2017.

In response to DICK’S Sporting Goods’ recent acquisition of Golfsmith International and subsequent closure of multiple stores housing GolfTEC centers, the company has implemented a dedicated plan to ensure a seamless transition for students and coaches. In markets impacted, GolfTEC will either open a new stand-alone location (along with temporary options so as to not disrupt service) and/or transition students and coaches to a nearby, existing GolfTEC location. There are only a few locations where neither of the above options are available.

“GolfTEC is coming off our most successful fiscal year in our 21-year history,” says Joe Assell, Co-Founder and CEO of GolfTEC. “The Golfsmith/DICK’s Sporting Goods opportunity isn’t slowing our growth as we are in a great financial position with the mobility and capital to deploy more stand-alone locations which continues to be our primary goal.”

New improvement centers in Baltimore, Grand Rapids, Mission Viejo, Tucson, Dallas, Hartford and Birmingham are scheduled to open before year-end and will feature new elements including:

  • Totally revamped and modern interior design creating a dynamic and holistic atmosphere tailored to total golf immersion.
  • Enhanced TECfit club-fitting program that scientifically blends different swing characteristics and ball flight data to identify the proper equipment – including diverse club head and shaft combinations – for each unique student. This includes a more significant presence and overall space for club-fitting.
  • Additional enhancements will include state-of-the-art camera and lighting upgrades to provide enhanced high-resolution video for both in-bay playback during lessons and online viewing post-session.

As an example, the company opened its Hong Kong improvement center in early October and it is already breaking all-time monthly sales records. It is the first GolfTEC location to showcase the new, vibrant design scheme that includes an extensive digital experience, comfortable furniture in common areas and expanded putting/chipping areas. The next to open with this new GolfTEC design is in Ellicott City, MD (near Baltimore) in mid-November.

GolfTEC’s unrivaled category growth in recent years includes a 98% increase in revenue since 2010. The largest driver of new business comes from referrals by current lesson takers who boast a 96 percent success rate and drop an average of seven strokes from their scorecard.

The GolfTEC coaching team is mainly comprised of PGA professionals who have conducted thousands of lessons. Each is certified after multi-week training at GolfTEC University where comprehensive analysis of golfers’ swing mechanics cornerstones progressive teaching methodology. To learn more about GolfTEC, please visit www.golftec.com or call 877-446-5383.

PG Professional Golf Merges Knetgolf.com into LostGolfBalls.com

Lost Golf Balls

PG Professional Golf Merges Knetgolf.com into LostGolfBalls.com

(SUGAR LAND, TX)PG Professional Golf – the world’s largest provider of premium pre-owned golf balls – has merged its popular Knetgolf.com into LostGolfBalls.com.

The million-plus loyal Knetgolf shoppers are being re-directed to the even larger LostGolfBalls.com for recycled and refinished Titleist, Callaway, Bridgestone, Nike, TaylorMade, Srixon and other ball brands at prices 50% less than new products.

The consolidation allows the 24-year-old PG Professional Golf to streamline operational costs that, in turn, means even greater discounts and product assortment, and lower shipping rates across North America.  The company acquired Knetgolf – which specialized in refinished balls – last year to supplement its thriving recycled ball business.

Independent studies show “second-chance” golf balls treated by PG Professional Golf’s proprietary technology perform virtually identical to new products.  The test results are supported by a 100% money-back guarantee and contributes to the company’s record sales in 2015 and likelihood to sell 50 million balls this year via e-commerce and at wholesale.

“Aggregating the websites enhances shoppers’ experiences,” says Gary Krueger, CEO of PG Professional Golf.  “The LostGolfBalls.com platform accommodates a higher level of engagement that aligns with America’s significantly growing demand for premium, secondary-market products.”

PG Professional Golf’s advanced technology transforms previously-owned balls into near cosmetic and performance perfection.  An exclusive grading system allows customers to select balls which best fit their unique preferences and budgets.  Golf courses earn money for allowing divers under contract with PG Professional Golf to retrieve balls from water hazards.

The PG Professional Golf phenomenon has been covered by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, NBC, MSNBC, ESPN, Golf Channel, Golf Digest and scores of other major media.    Focus often centers on “like-new” golf balls increasingly becoming standard fare as golfers, on average, lose one ball every 4.15 holes.

Buying pre-owned golf balls aligns with prudent consumer trends for previously-consumed textbooks, children’s clothing, maternity wear, cards, household appliances, bicycles, toys, furniture, wedding attire and fixer-upper homes.  Retail pundits predict the secondary product market could represent more than 25% of all consumer purchases by 2025.

Refinished golf balls are repainted, stamped with the original brand logo and painted with a fresh, factory-clear coat.  Recycled balls are also thoroughly cleaned, sorted by quality and packaged for re-sale, but don’t undergo cosmetic touch-ups.

About PG Professional Golf

Based outside Houston, TX., PG Professional Golf is the world’s largest supplier of brand-name, high-performance recycled and refinished golf balls at roughly half the price of new products.  CEO Gary Krueger, a former PGA Tour player who competed in three U.S. Opens, co-founded the company in 1992 with one ball washer and a handful of retrieval contracts.  To date, it has sold more than a half-billion balls.    PG Professional Golf’s ReLoad brand of packaged, pre-owned golf balls is sold in stores in more than 50 countries worldwide.  The company’s other direct-to-consumer and wholesale brands are LostGolfBalls.com, OneSize Fits All Gloves and SoftCore Range Balls.

NAPLES, FL (November 2016) – Interested in taking a fall or winter getaway?  Then you should consider heading to The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club in Southwest Florida. Set on 125 lush acres, complemented by seven miles of pristine white sandy beach, the AAA Four-Diamond resort is Southwest Florida’s only resort directly on the beach with an on-site championship golf course, a world-class spa, and an award-winning tennis center.

Want more reason to visit?  The resort is putting the finishing touches on the dramatic renovation – almost reinvention – of its championship golf course. The total redesign of the resort’s course began in April, and the course will be fully operational and reopening on November 17, 2016. Notably, the resort’s course was redesigned with input from golf icon and acclaimed course designer Jack Nicklaus, who has a historical tie to the resort. The Jack Nicklaus redesign was done in collaboration with noted course architect John Sanford of Sanford Golf Design. This major $9 million project follows $50 million in impressive renovations and enhancements at the resort over the last few years.

A great way to experience the resort and the new course is by taking advantage of the resort’s new “Golf by the Gulf” package. Available December 1, 2016-April 30, 2017, the package is available for one golfer, two golfers, or for one golfer & one non-golfer. Also of great appeal:  guests at the resort always benefit from no resort fees, complimentary valet parking and self-parking, and complimentary access to the resort’s fitness center.

The “one golfer” package starts at $399 per night. The “two golfers” package starts at $553 per night. The “one golfer & one non-golfer” package starts at $555 per night. Note that the package is based on availability, and blackout dates may apply. The package may not be combined with any other offer, and is not applicable to groups.

For more information or for reservations, call (800) 237-7600 or (239) 261-2222 and ask for the “Golf by the Gulf Package.” Or, visit  NaplesBeachHotel.com , specifically

The resort’s new golf course brings together two of the world’s finest designers. Jack Nicklaus is helping to celebrate his past and that of The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club by reshaping the future of this iconic golf course. It was in 1951, on a family vacation to Naples, Florida, and a friendly round of golf alongside his father, that the Ohio native accomplished the very impressive feat of first breaking 40 over nine holes on the resort’s course, shooting a 37. At just 11 years old, he came within a shot of shooting par, and just one year after he picked up golf clubs for the first time. This round, in particular, is what drew Nicklaus to the project – the scorecard is even archived in the Jack Nicklaus Museum, the 24,000-square-foot facility on the campus of The Ohio State University.

“Being back at The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club is like a walk down memory lane for me,” Nicklaus said. “Returning to the same course where I broke 40, with my father by my side, brings back a lot of very special and very fond memories. At the same time, I am enjoying the opportunity to work with John (Sanford) on this rebirth, if you will, of a wonderful layout. I think we have some great ideas and people will be excited about the end product.”

“We are very proud and excited about the completion of the dramatic renovation and redesign of our 18-hole championship golf course,” said the resort’s General Manager Jason Parsons. “The redesign is a unique collaboration between the greatest player of all time Jack Nicklaus, who also is one of the world’s most celebrated golf course designers, and the very talented John Sanford. It truly has been a pleasure to see them collaborate on this totally new, par-71 course, which features five tees, ranging from 4,800 yards to over 6,900 yards. Our guests, groups, and golfers of every skill level will absolutely love the truly beautiful new course. The new course will be a terrific addition to the experience for our guests.”

Golf Course Architect John Sanford said, “The course has been redesigned to challenge the best players but also be enjoyable for all golfers. The redesign takes advantage of the sandy soils so the course will play ‘firm and fast.’ The ball will roll out so tee shots will be longer and approaches are open to accept running shots to the greens. The greens are gently contoured to allow for multiple hole locations but have continuous movement that will challenge all skill levels. Many of the large trees were cleared to ‘open up’ the course and various types of palm trees have been planted to extend the beachfront character of the resort. We are very excited about the reopening of the course.”

Sanford added, “We have a number of great new holes at the resort course, which includes the ‘signature hole’ #16. It is a medium length ‘Redan’ par 3. The green is a peninsula with water in front, on the right and behind the green. It’s not long but will require accuracy to hit the green.”

In addition to the new course, the resort has added a 300-yard practice and teaching range, and will have new golf carts with GPS tracking systems to aid golfers with yardages on each hole, thus helping pace of play.

“The completion of this renovation will bring our golf course in line with the rest of our AAA Four-Diamond resort and enhance the overall guest and group experience,” said Henry B. Watkins, co-owner of the resort.  “The added bonus of having Mr. Nicklaus collaborate on the redesign of the course where he first broke 40 for nine holes is wonderful, and further enriches the deep history of our property.”

Rich in hospitality and tradition, The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club has been part of the Naples community since 1946. Owned and operated by the Watkins family for three generations, the resort also features: 1,000 feet of soft white-sand beach; the world-class spa; a fitness center; the Mary C. Watkins Tennis Center with six Har-Tru courts; Beach Kids Club, a complimentary daily recreational program for children ages 5 to 12; retail shops; beach rentals; 34,000 square feet of meeting space; and a variety of picturesque outdoor venues for receptions and events.

In addition, the resort features multiple restaurants and lounges. The selection includes:  the signature beachfront restaurant HB’s on the Gulf; Broadwell’s, serving breakfast daily and providing panoramic views of the golf course; and the Seminole Store, which serves deli sandwiches, ice cream, gourmet coffees and desserts. The Sunset Beach Bar & Grill has been recognized as the “Best Place To View A Southwest Florida Sunset,” and was named “Naples’ Best Beach Bar” by Travel Channel.

Guest rooms and suites feature cool tropical-colored linens, fabrics and carpeting; flat-panel televisions; patios or balconies (with a view of the Gulf, the golf course or the lush resort interior); coffee makers; and refrigerators.

Among the recent enhancements was the November 2015 replacement of the brick balconies in the main Tower Building with beautiful glass balconies to showcase the gorgeous Gulf views.

Situated just blocks from Naples’ renowned shopping districts of fashionable 5th Avenue South and historic 3rd Street South, the resort is also within minutes of shopping at Venetian Village, Waterside Shops, Bayfront and Tin City.

Guests can further experience the area by taking tours of the Everglades, Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, Corkscrew Swamp, The Botanical Gardens, or the Conservancy Nature Center. Boat and fishing trips can also be arranged at the hotel. Other leisure-time activities can include Naples’ outstanding museums, theatres, and art galleries.

Providing a comfortable and friendly atmosphere, the resort is an exceptional tropical getaway. The resort is located at 851 Gulf Shore Blvd. North in Naples, Florida. “We’ve worked tirelessly to get our golf courses back up to par following the storm and are excited to re-open them on a daily basis,” says Cary Corbitt, President of the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association. “We want to assure our loyal guests there’s no need to alter travel plans; by the end of November nearly all operations will be back to normal if they aren’t already.”

Crews have been working around the clock to fix landscaping damage and clear fallen trees and other debris from golf courses. Buildings and other structures experienced very little impact and have been open since Hurricane Matthew passed earlier this month.

At nearby Fripp Island Resort, nearly all resort amenities including dining, tennis, pools, activity center, marina and Ocean Creek Golf Club have been open since Oct. 27. Plans are to re-open the acclaimed Ocean Point Golf Links by January 1, 2017. Starting at $110 per person, per night (based on eight-or-more players, taxes and fees not included) the Stay and Play Package includes nightly accommodations, 18 holes with cart on Ocean Creek and complimentary replay round based on availability.
