January 25, 2016 – Abaco, The Bahamas — The Abaco Club on Winding Bay announced today that longtime member and resident, Darren Clarke, has agreed to serve as its World Ambassador, and to assist in promoting the Club both in its sales and marketing efforts and at special events.

Clarke has been a fixture at the Abaco Club since its opening in 2008 and was married to his wife, Alison, on the club’s extraordinary, 2.5-mile, white sand beach in 2012.  “I love the relaxed atmosphere of this place and the enhancements that have been made to the award-winning course at The Abaco Club,” Clarke said, from his cottage overlooking Winding Bay.  “It’s extraordinarily beautiful, and there’s no place I’d rather spend time, especially with my family. I’m also looking forward to the completion of the state-of-the-art practice facility at the Club,” he added. “I’ve always loved working on my game here prior to The Masters each year, and this new facility is going to be a Tour-quality practice area, the best in the islands.” In addition to enjoying his home at Abaco and being on the beach and golf course, Clarke also has a passion for the world-class bonefishing and sport-fishing opportunities in The Abacos. He recently competed in, and won, the Abaco Club’s bonefishing competition, which took place over the holidays.

The current European Ryder Cup Team Captain, Darren Clarke has had a long and successful professional career.  Originally from Northern Ireland, Clarke plays in PGA Tour, European Tour and other major golf events all around the world.  He has played on the European Ryder Cup team five times and has won 22 tournaments on major tours, including the PGA Tour, Sunshine Tour and Japan Tour.  He won the 2011 Open Championship at Royal St. George’s, along with two World Golf Championships, most notably the 2000 WGC-Andersen Consulting Match Play Championship when he defeated Tiger Woods.

January 27, 2016, Santa Rosa, CA — Mayacama, Sonoma County’s private golf and residential community, has announced that Head Golf Professional Ted Antonopoulos has been appointed to the PGA of America Rules Committee.The PGA Rules Committee is made up of 35 PGA Members and is responsible for administering the Rules of Golf at all Championships conducted by the PGA of America. Those Championships include the PGA Championship, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, the Senior PGA Championship, the National Club Professional Championship, The Ryder Cup, and several others. In addition to the Association’s Championships, Members of the Rules Committee are also included among the list of special invitees who officiate at The Open Championship, The Masters, The US Open, US Senior Open, The Players Championship, and in 2016 they will be included as part of the officiating crew when Golf returns as an Olympic Sport in the Summer Olympics taking place in Brazil in 2016. Committee Members are also responsible for instructing and/or coordinating the PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshops, held at several nationwide locations each year.

The selection process for this prestigious appointment is quite extensive. Qualified candidates must have recorded a minimum score of 92 or better on the PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Exam and must submit a portfolio of experience to the Chairman of the Rules Committee. A Selection Committee then evaluates each rule profile folder, ranking them on a scale of 1-5. This individual ranking system will allow Committee leadership to fairly perform the very difficult task of sorting through extremely qualified professionals who are passionate about the rules of golf.

Ted received his appointment from PGA of American President Derek Sprague and Rules Committee Chairman Ron Hickman.

“Obviously I am thrilled to represent Mayacama Golf Club as part of this prestigious Committee,” Antonopoulos said. “The PGA Rules Committee is a dedicated group of Professionals who have a passion for the game, and I have always been impressed with the way that they conduct themselves and our Championships. It will be an honor to serve on this Committee and I look forward to the opportunity.”

Ted’s first assignment was the National Car Rental Assistant Championship in Port St. Lucie, Florida in late 2015. He will also be coordinating the PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshop in Las Vegas in February 2016.

In addition to the PGA of America Rules Committee, Ted is also a Member of the USGA Senior Amateur Committee and has officiated at USGA Championships for the last 5 years. Other assignments have included PGA Tour Qualifying School, USGA Championship Qualifying, American Junior Golf Association’s Wyndham Cup, NCAA Division I and Division II Regional Championships, and of course our very own Mayacama Cup and Annual Championships of Mayacama Golf Club…with the latter being the most pressure-packed of all!

Mayacama is very fortunate to have Ted’s knowledge, experience, and wisdom to ensure that the game remains true to its time-honored traditions.

Golfing superstars gather in the Middle East as the sport

prepares for “game-changing” year


Abu Dhabi, UAE, 19 January 2016: Four of the world’s best golfers today raced into Abu Dhabi and a “game-changing” golfing year on the crest of a wave by trying their hand at the latest sensation sweeping the golf world.

In an all-action start to the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, World Number 1 Jordan Spieth was partnered by World Number 5 and compatriot Rickie Fowler for ‘Team USA’ in a “Rider Cup Desert” challenge against ‘Team Europe’ represented by World Number 3 and four-time runner-up Ulsterman Rory McIlroy and World Number 6, super Swede Henrik Stenson at Abu Dhabi’s ocean-front Saadiyat Beach Golf Club.

GolfBoarding has taken golf by storm in the last twelve months. Co-created by surfing legend and extreme sports pioneer Laird Hamilton, it gives golfers the opportunity to “surf the earth” as they ride the course skateboard style from hole to hole, aiming to make speed of play a thing of the past.

The four players are part of a star-studded field for the $2.7 million “Desert Swing” opener at Abu Dhabi Golf Club National course (January 21-24) teeing off in a year which also hosts the Ryder Cup and sees the sport’s return to the Olympics in Rio.

Spieth, who is making his Arabian debut in the UAE capital, said: “I’ve spoken to Rickie a number of times about it and he said his experience of Abu Dhabi and this event was fantastic. I am really looking forward to playing this week.”

His Excellency Aref Al Awani, General Secretary of Abu Dhabi Sports Council, which owns the event said:

“Our Rider Cup desert challenge was a bit of fun – to get the Championship’s entertainment element off to a speedy start. We have significantly upgraded the spectator engagement this year with new activity zones, more prizes and a packed programme of player and sporting star appearances – something for everyone.”

World Number 3 Rory McIlroy commented: “There are many reasons why I always start my golfing season in Abu Dhabi. After two runner-up placings, it’s no secret that I would love to win on the National course.”
