A 10-year BCG veteran, Elmore, 46, will be responsible for all facets of company performance.  Aligning with an unwavering focus on revenue generation at 150-plus golf properties, he will continue leveraging BCG’s scale, significant commitments to technology, data-driven marketing and highly talented teams at course and corporate levels.

“As much as we have accomplished the past few years building the best operating platform in the history of golf, Billy Casper Golf is firmly on the path of even greater near- and long-term growth,” says Elmore.  “Our database touches one of every eight active golfers in America, giving us both extraordinary influence in the marketplace and responsibility for the sustainability of golf.”

Elmore’s promotion coincides with Executive Vice President Joe Goodrich’s increased involvement with BCG’s aggressive strategy to acquire public and private golf properties, as well as course-management companies.  He will also direct its burgeoning private club division, player-development initiatives, retailing best practices and other programming unique to BCG.

Recently named Golf Inc. magazine’s sixth most powerful person in golf, Hill will continue guiding BCG, expanding its holdings and serving on boards of organizations dedicated to growing the game.

Adding to BCG leadership is Joe Steranka, the veteran sports marketer and retired CEO of the PGA of America (2005 to 2012).  In early 2014, he became Chief Global Strategist of BCG and Buffalo Communications, the in-house PR, marketing and strategy development division that represents top brands in golf and sports.

The Sea Pines Resort Announces Love Golf Design to Renovate Ocean Course

The Sea Pines Resort Announces Love Golf Design to Renovate Ocean Course

(HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C.)  – The Sea Pines Resort announces Love Golf Design, the course architecture firm founded and headed by PGA TOUR star Davis Love III and his brother Mark, will redesign its historic Ocean Course.

Based on Georgia’s St. Simons Island, Love Golf Design has done numerous course designs and renovations in the region including Retreat at Sea Island (Sea Island, Ga.), Laurel Island Golf Club (Kingsland, Ga.), and the Love Course at Barefoot Resort (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). Love is a five-time winner of the RBC Heritage held on lauded Harbour Town Golf Links.

The Ocean Course is steeped in Hilton Head golf history as the first course built on the famed island in 1962 by prolific architect George Cobb. Mark McCumber, a 10-time PGA TOUR winner, remodeled the original design in 1995. Love Golf Design will perform and oversee a total renovation of the entire layout. The course will close for play next Oct. and reopen in Sept., 2016.

“Sea Pines is one of my all-time favorite places to play so we’re excited to redesign the Ocean Course to be in line with the great golf offered by Harbour Town Golf Links and Heron Point,” says Love. “It’s an honor for us to work with one of the world’s premier golf destinations.”

The project follows completed enhancements by Pete Dye to his Heron Point design, which reopened for play on Sept. 22.  Dye’s team softened the green surrounds and contours, enlarged several greens, and added ornamental landscape beds throughout the layout. The putting surfaces were transitioned to Tif-Eagle Bermuda grass.

Next May, after the 2015 RBC Heritage, Harbour Town Golf Links will close for the summer as its fairways will be changed to cutting-edge Celebration Bermuda grass. Harbour Town’s greens will additionally be reseeded with Tif-Eagle Bermuda, the same grass on the putting surfaces since 2001, and the irrigation system will be replaced.

“We’re thrilled to have a great champion like Davis Love III and his exceptional design team working on the Ocean Course,” says Cary Corbitt, Vice President of Sports and Operations. “Our continual goal at The Sea Pines Resort is to offer world-class golf.”

Earlier this year, the legendary Lowcountry destination opened its new Plantation Golf Club clubhouse and golf learning center serving Heron Point and the Ocean Course. The amenities of the 23,000-square-foot clubhouse include an expansive pro shop; Live Oak, Lowcountry-inspired cuisine; 2,000 square feet of event space; and spacious men’s and women’s locker rooms.

TRANQUILO GOLF CLUB photo ORL_104_aspect16x9_zps656b71ec.jpg

The long-anticipated Tranquilo Golf Club at Four Seasons Resort Orlando has officially opened, enabling Resort guests and locals the opportunity to play on the stunning 18-hole championship course. Unique to Central Florida for its varying elevation, abundant wildlife and protected wetlands, the name Tranquilo pays homage to the Resort’s Spanish Revival design and tranquil setting, featuring many southern live oak trees with delicate Spanish moss.

Course Design

Originally built in 1992 and designed by Tom Fazio as Disney’s Osprey Ridge, Fazio re-designed the course for its launch as Tranquilo Golf Club.  Enhancements included creating a completely new hole and renovated bunkers, plus improved visibility and airflow by enhancing the landscape design, in addition to a fully renovated clubhouse.  The course is a Par 71, with a yardage of 6,901 and four sets of tees to accommodate all skill levels.

“I am very proud of the transformation of the Tranquilo Golf Club golf course.  Since the course opened more than 20 years ago, it has been considered among the best courses in the region, and the recent upgrades and improvements to the course will surely solidify that reputation for many years to come,” says Tom Fazio of Fazio Golf Design.

Charlie Kent, Director of Golf for Tranquilo Golf Club and a member of the PGA of America since 1993, brings more than 25 years of experience in golf course management.  He notes, “The Osprey Ridge course was so well-regarded by golfers for many years.  We are very proud of the renovation work and enhancements the Fazio team completed and we’re confident golfers who were fond of the former layout will truly be able to connect with the course once again.”

The course is certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary program for golf by the National Audubon Society, and just received its re-certification this past September under the leadership of Rusty Wilson, Golf Course Superintendent and Golf Course Superintendents Association of America member.  The addition of native plants and trees, as well as the creation of naturalized areas on the golf course to provide water and food for local and migratory wildlife, was a key factor in the course’s certification.

As part of the enhancements, all of the greens were resurfaced with Tiff Eagle Bermuda grass, in addition to improvements to drainage in many key areas of the course.  To accommodate the development of Four Seasons Resort Orlando, Fazio created a new par three 16th hole, which Kent describes as one of the signature holes.  This beautiful spot on the course is framed by southern live oak trees and a natural sand area that runs from the tee area to the green. Measuring 163 yards from the back tee, it presents a scoring opportunity for the golfer, as Kent notes golfers will be more challenged by the 17th and 18th finishing holes.  The 18th hole, a finishing Par 3, offers 217 yards fronted by a large bunker and a pond to the left. With the stunning backdrop of Four Seasons Resort Orlando in the distance, this hole presents a memorable completion to the round.

Tranquilo Golf Club Highlights

The course is available for individual tee times, available up to 60 days in advance for registered Resort guests, and is open to the public for tee times 30 days in advance.  Guests of Tranquilo can enjoy the full-service clubhouse, featuring locker rooms, and a Golf Shop featuring a variety of retail offerings. From a full line of logo wear and accessories, ranging from hats to jackets and even leather logo iPad cases, the Golf Shop is open daily from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Complimentary shoe shine and bag storage is also available at the clubhouse.

Tranquilo offers custom Four Seasons golf carts that include a state-of-the-art GPS navigation system with two-way communication, a ball washer, and coolers stocked with bottled water.

Family play is encouraged, and the course offers special golf carts that accommodate a family of four.  In addition, children 12 and younger play free with an adult, and children ages 13-18 golf at half price.

Plancha is the Cuban American restaurant located at the golf clubhouse.  Helmed by Chef Pedro Sanchez Negron, who brings 16 years of experience and a strong background in Latin/Caribbean/Spanish cuisine, Plancha offers a true delight for the culinary senses. The flavourful menu includes dishes such as empanadas; a smoked bacon and black bean soup; La Plancha burger with chorizo, maduro and smoked gouda cheese; El Cubano sandwich; churrasco flat iron steak; marinated chicken; and much more. Dessert is not to be missed at Plancha, with specialties such as the Tres Leches; traditional flan; and the chocolate banana torta.
Frank Reilly, Restaurant Manager, brings nine years of food and beverage management experience to Plancha, which is open daily from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Plancha features a full bar plus a cigar bar, with an expansive lakeside terrace and outdoor smoking lounge area perfect to enjoy an “après golf” cigar.  The Plancha Cigar is a custom hand-rolled cigar made exclusively for Tranquilo Golf Club. Currently, two custom Plancha Cigars are available: shade grown and sun grown, offered in five different sizes.  Additional cigars from Davidoff, Padron and Romeo Y Julieta are also offered in the Plancha humidor.

  • Billy Casper Golf Selected to Manage Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro, MD

No. 3 in Golfweek’s 2014 ‘Best Courses You Can Play’ State-By-State Rankings
(VIENNA, VA) – Billy Casper Golf (BCG) – the largest owner-operator of golf courses, country clubs and resorts in the U.S. – has been selected to manage Lake Presidential Golf Club (Upper Marlboro, MD) which ranks No. 3 on Golfweek’s 2014 “Best Courses You Can Play” state-by-state list.

Headquartered in nearby Northern Virginia, BCG will turnkey all facets of the public-access Lake Presidential Golf Club operation, including course and property maintenance, staffing and training, clubhouse activities, merchandising, golf instruction, marketing and public relations, special events and financial management.

“Billy Casper Golf is honored to manage the award-winning Lake Presidential Golf Club,” says Peter Hill, Chairman and CEO of BCG.  “We are bringing several new programs to the club to build on its stellar reputation and cement it as a ‘must play’ for Mid-Atlantic golfers.”

“Lake Presidential is blessed with a fantastic piece of property a stone’s throw from the world’s most powerful city,” says Bill Anthony of Ryko Development, owner of Lake Presidential.  “Golfers relish the topography and wild areas which are unrivaled regionally.”

Named a “Top 10 New Course in the United States” by GOLF Magazine upon opening in 2008, Lake Presidential is less than 45 minutes east of Washington, DC and one hour south of Baltimore.  Golf Channel calls the course “the best kept secret in DC golf.”

Developed by Landmark Land Company, the 18-hole, par-72, 7,230-yard layout winds its way through wooded terrain and rich, natural expanses.  Landing zones are generous off the tee and green complexes require precise approach shots, making Lake Presidential a balanced test for golfers of all skill levels.  Five sets of tees, handsomely groomed playing surfaces, white-sand bunkers and picturesque streams round out the excitement.

At 570 yards, the par-5 eighth hole is as demanding as it is beautiful.  An accurate tee shot through trees sets up an approach to a narrow green guarded by bunkers and the course’s namesake lake.  The 225-yard, par-3 ninth and risk-reward 515-yard, par-5 18th also play around Lake Presidential for memorable finishes to rounds.

Complementing the golf course is “The Institute,” Lake Presidential’s world-class, indoor-outdoor training facility.  Home to the TaylorMade Performance Lab – one of only 12 in the world – PGA professionals use the MATT (Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade) System for high-speed cameras and motion-capture technology that produces three-dimensional images of golfers’ swings.  A short-game practice area features a bunker, large putting green and spacious, all-grass driving range.

The stately, 11,000 square-foot clubhouse includes a fully-stocked pro shop with the latest in equipment and apparel from top brands.  With a banquet hall accommodating 150 guests, Lake Presidential is a popular venue for corporate meetings, weddings and other catered functions.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the grill offers indoor-outdoor dining and majestic panoramic views of the 30-acre Lake Presidential.  A complete menu of classic, American favorites, fully stocked bar and friendly wait staff make it a perfect spot for pre- or post-round meals with friends and family.
